在外人的眼里，童年的阿甘就是一个智商只有75(而正常孩子的标准是80以上)的弱智儿，他没有朋友，交谈的唯一对象是妈妈，后来结识了有着心灵重创的小女孩“珍妮”——他整个童年的唯一朋友，这部作品里，“珍妮”是贯穿始终的一条线，他窜起了阿甘简单而多彩的人生。
