从腊月初八就有了年味，家家都能闻到一股腊八粥的味道，看着这有各种干果和豆子熬成的粥让人忍不住马上尝尝。除此之外，这天大家还都泡腊八蒜。把剥好的蒜泡在醋里，放上白糖封起来，到年底，蒜泡得像一颗颗玛瑙，醋变得又甜又辣，真是色味双美。

转眼到了腊月二十三，这一天要祭灶神，还要吃芝麻糖。传说让灶神吃了芝麻糖，粘住嘴，就不会向玉皇大帝禀告人间不好了。

过了二十三就要扫一次房子，也是辞旧迎新的意思，还要提前蒸好各种式样的年糕。到了二十七八，必须把鸡、鸭、鱼、肉、菜和对联等年货预备充足，家家飘出了炸丸子的香味。街上的人熙熙攘攘地往来，都在赶着预备年货。小贩们卖力吆喝着，真是热闹非凡——到初一店里就要关门了。
