范仲淹青少年时，冷头沃面，划粥为齑，刻苦攻读，誓“以天下为己任”。入仕后，他为官一任、造福一方，殚心竭虑、鞠躬尽瘁，始终把百姓的冷暖忧乐挂在胸怀。难能可贵的是，虽官居要职，他始终严于律己， 注重家声，国财民脂秋毫不犯。逝世后， 治丧无其所，“入殓无新衣”。

范仲淹二儿子范纯仁，娶妻王氏。王氏为朝廷重臣王质长女，在娘家舒适享受已成习惯，到范家后很不适应清贫生活。一天范仲淹看到这位儿媳从娘家拿来优质丝绸做帐幔，心里很不高兴，指责儿子和儿媳说:这样好的绸缎， 怎么能用来做帐幔呢? 我们家一贯讲究清素节俭，你们如果把这些奢华的坏习惯带到家里，搞乱了我的家法家规，我就要在庭院里用火烧这些 绸缎!

其兄范仲温曾要求范仲淹给自己的儿子们谋个一官半职，范仲淹在《与中舍书》回信中，着重谈了对侄子们的教育问题，指出要督促二侄、三侄发奋学习，每天必令其钻研功课，苦读苦练，决不能让他们得过且过，混天度日。要让他们了解，只有等到他们学有所成，自己才能按规定向朝廷请示给他们安排职务。两位侄子在他的教导下，学业上进，品行端正，深受邻里乡亲的喜爱。后来经范仲淹推荐，朝廷按典章惯例给予恩荫入仕。此时范仲淹又马上给他们写来书信， 提出了一系列做人做官要求:“汝守官处小心，不得欺事。与同官和睦多礼，有事即与同官议……莫纵乡亲来部下兴贩， 自家且一向清心做官，莫营私利。”

范仲淹这一段语重心长教育侄子的话，得到了大理学家朱熹的赞扬， 他说:范文正公写给侄子的信，语言朴实易懂，让人感到亲切。其要义在于“莫营私利”。

从五代起，范家世居苏州，先人陵墓多在天平山。范仲淹曾在苏州为官，兴水利，办府学，造福乡梓。据传，他在南园一带曾买下一片土地，阴阳先生说，这是块风水宝地， “居之，必世出卿相”。范仲淹本来打算建房居住， 听后却办起了学宫，苏州府学即自此开始。晚年， 他又到苏州办起了义庄。至今，府学、义庄旧迹 仍在。

这时，妈妈走过来，看到那一团糟的树叶贴画，那滚到墙角的皮球，还有搭了一半的积木，就问我：“你怎么一件事情都没做好?你看妹妹拍皮球，已经创造了一分钟200个的最新记录了!再看表姐的树叶贴画，做得多漂亮啊!你呢?”我有气无力地说：“我已经做了很多了，但怎么都做不好呀?”妈妈笑着说：“哪有你这么不专心的，能做好才奇怪呢?做事要细心、专心、用心，不放弃，这样才能做好呀!”
