本次“安全在我身边”主题演讲比赛，经过近一个半小时的激烈比赛，终于落下帷幕。此次演讲比赛，在矿有关单位相互配合，精心组织下，在全体选手的共同努力下，取得了圆满成功。这次比赛能够取得圆满成功，离不开各位领导的关心与支持，离不开各位参赛选手的积极参与，也离不开组织者的辛苦工作。在此我代表全体矿领导向各位领导、各位工作人员、各位参赛选手以及各位观众表示衷心的感谢，并向在演讲中脱颖而出的选手表示热烈的祝贺。

这次以“安全在我身边”为主题的演讲比赛活动，再一次将安全生产月活动推向了高潮，通过活动的举办，全体职工对当前形势有了更深的认识，对安全生产的重要意义有了更深的了解。同时也将“安全第一、生命至上”的理念植根于每一位煤矿工作者的心中。

刚才听了参赛选手声情并茂的演讲，很受鼓舞。有的结合工作实际，有的引经据典，有的旁征博引，紧扣主题，大家精心准备，演讲效果很好，氛围浓厚。这是一次精彩的演讲，成功的演讲。我认为，这种活动形式很好，既活跃了我矿职工的学习氛围，又锻炼了大家的演讲才能；既丰富了大家的业余文化生活，又提高了职工的综合素质，这种主题实践活动，今后我们还要多组织几次，不断推动我矿职工向高素质人才发展。

i am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.

five score years ago, a great american, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the emancipation proclamation. this momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. it came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.

but one hundred years later, the negro still is not free. one hundred years later, the life of the negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. one hundred years later, the negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. one hundred years later, the negro is still languished in the corners of american society and finds himself an exile in his own land. and so we've come here today to dramatize a shameful condition.

in a sense we've come to our nation's capital to cash a check. when the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the constitution and the declaration of independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every american was to fall heir. this note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the "unalienable rights" of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." it is obvious today that america has defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. instead of honoring this sacred obligation, america has given the negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked "insufficient funds."

but we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. we refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. and so, we've com
